Village & Saving Loans Association

Overview
This program encourages women in rural communities to save a small portion of their income and trains them to maintain detailed financial records. Functioning as a rural banking system, it gives women full control and ownership over loans, without the burden of high interest rates often seen in micro-credit programs. By managing their own savings and loans, women gain greater decision-making power and economic self-reliance, shifting societal perceptions of their roles.
Goals / Achievements
This empowerment fuels economic activity, strengthens social cohesion, and improves overall community well-being, leading to better education opportunities and access to healthcare, as in the Mathaska Agricultural Project. The Village & Saving Loan Association (VSLA) acts a bridge for opportunities leading to self-sustaining, community-led growth.
